3490E data transfer and tape conversion
- 3490E tape cartridge:
-
Introduced in 1991, the 3490E was the next development of IBM's 3480 tape cartridge format. By using longer tapes, and doubling the number of tracks from 18 to 36, it had four times the 3480's native capacity.
In 1992 IBM introduced their final development of the 3490E tape cartridge (and the 3480 tape cartridge family) by offering IDRC compression as an option for the 3490E drive.
IDRC typically doubled 3490E capacity to around 1600MB.
